Delayed Meningitis Complicated by the Frontal Sinus Opening to the Dura Mater in a Patient with Intracranial Injury Fifteen Years Ago

چکیده
Post-traumatic meningitis may occur in moderate to severe head injuries. It generally occurs within two weeks after traumatic event. Seventy five percent of cases have demonstrable basal skull fracture, and fifty eight percent had obvious cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) rhinorrhea. As expected from above, there is a high rate of infection with organisms indigenous to the nasal cavity. All the accessory sinuses of the nose on one or both sides, pansinusitis and even death may also be possible in such cases. We present one case of posttraumatic meningitis occurred 15 years after trauma, in which surgical intervention is helpful for rapid control of infection and good recovery. Case Report

EVALUATION OF CRANIALIZATION TECHNIQUE IN T HE TREATMENT OF FRONTAL SINUS FRACTU RES
Frontal sinus fractures are of surgical importance because of the microbial flora covering the frontal air sinus and it's proximity with the duramater and brain. There is an increased risk of meningitis when fracture of the posterior wall of the frontal sinus is associated with a dural tear. In this condition, communication occurs between the contaminated space of the air sinus and the intr...

Sir, We report an unusual case of congenital hydrocephalus that developed acute tension pneumocephalus six months after the ventriculo-peritoneal shunt surgery. Delayed and symptomatic pneumocephalus following shunt placement is rare and has been described in only 11 cases so far. A 19-year-old female had undergone ventriculo-peritoneal shunt surgery for obstructive hydrocephalus secondary to c...
متن کاملFulminant bacterial meningitis complicating sphenoid sinusitis.
Intracranial complications of sinusitis, including meningitis, are uncommon in childhood. Among pediatric patients admitted for treatment of sinusitis, 3.2% were found to have an intracranial complication. Conversely, among pediatric patients with intracranial infections, only 2.4% had infections secondary to sinusitis. Infection of the sphenoid sinuses, however, merits particular concern. Thes...
متن کاملEndoscopic repair of anterior cranial fossa dural defect in an unusual case of frontal sinus trauma.
Because of its vulnerable location, the frontal sinus may be involved in several types of maxillofacial trauma. This involvement may cause fractures of the anterior and/or posterior walls of the sinus,1 lodgment of foreign bodies in the sinus,2 and anterior cranial fossa dural tears, which may result in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) rhinorrhea, meningitis, aerocele, and other intracranial complicat...
متن کاملPrimary intracranial rhabdomyosarcoma producing proptosis.
A case is reported of a primary rhabdomyosarcoma occurring in the right subfrontal region of a 16 year old girl. The patient suffered from dull frontal headache and proptosis for three months before hospitalization. The circumscribed and demarcated neoplasm involved the dura mater, and invaded the frontal sinus and roof of the orbit on the same side. The pathogenesis of the tumour is thought to...
